Microcalorimeter/EBIT measurements of X-ray spectra of highly charged ions

2001

Spectra of highly charged Ar, Kr, Xe and Fe ions, produced in an Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT), have been recorded in a broad X-ray energy band (0.2 keV to 10 keV) with a microcalorimeter detector. The first analysis of the Kr spectra has been completed and most of the spectral lines have been identified as transitions of B- to Al-like Kr. Line intensity ratios of Fe XVII have been measured and compared with theoretical models.

Implementation of dosimetry equipment and phantoms at the MedAustron light ion beam therapy facility

2017

Purpose: To describe the implementation of dosimetry equipment and phantoms into clinical practice of light ion beam therapy facilities. This work covers standard dosimetry equipment such as computerized water scanners, films, 2D-array, thimble and plane parallel ionization chambers, but also dosimetry equipment specifically devoted to the pencil beam scanning delivery technique such as water columns, scintillating screens or multi-layer ionization chambers. Method: Advanced acceptance testing procedures developed at MedAustron and complementary to the standard acceptance procedures proposed by the manufacturer are presented. Detailed commissioning plans have been implemented for each piece…

Recent experiments have demonstrated the formation of free-standing Au monolayers by exposing the Au–Ag alloy to electron beam irradiation. Inspired by this discovery, we used semi-empirical effective medium theory simulations to investigate monolayer formation in 30 different binary metal alloys composed of late d-series metals such as Ni, Cu, Pd, Ag, Pt, and Au. In qualitative agreement with the experiment, we find that the beam energy required to dealloy Ag atoms from the Au–Ag alloy is smaller than the energy required to break the dealloyed Au monolayer. Our simulations suggest that a similar method could also be used to form Au monolayers from the Au–Cu alloy and Pt monolayers from Pt–…

Normal metal - insulator - superconductor interferometer

2003

Hybrid normal metal - insulator - superconductor microstructures suitable for studying an interference of electrons were fabricated. The structures consist of a superconducting loop connected to a normal metal electrode through a tunnel barrier . An optical interferometer with a beam splitter can be considered as a classical analogue for this system. All measurements were performed at temperatures well below 1 K. The interference can be observed as periodic oscillations of the tunnel current (voltage) through the junction at fixed bias voltage (current) as a function of a perpendicular magnetic field. The magnitude of the oscillations depends on the bias point. It reaches a maximum at energ…

Compact dielectric reflective elements II Multichannel filter of closely spaced spectral bands

1994

The optical design of an interference wedge filter providing the simultaneous separation of a number of closely spaced spectral bands is studied. Multiple reflections of the incident collimated beam within the wedge are initiated, each of them characterized by a different angle of incidence and consequently by specific spectral parameters of the transmitted band. Model calculations based on the measured angular dependences of filter transmission parameters have been performed. The design is proposed for applications in optical communications (wavelength division demultiplexing), analytical spectroscopy (minipolychromators), color analysis, and similar areas.

Structure and Lattice Dynamics in PLZT 8/65/35 Ceramics Irradiated by High-Current Pulsed Electron Beam

2004

The comprehensive study of high-current pulsed electron irradiation effect on the structure and lattice dynamics as well as optical properties of PLZT 8/65/35 ceramics have been performed. X-ray powder diffraction studies shown the transformation of the rhombohedral perovskite structure R3m (Z = 1) into orthorhombic Pmmm (Z = 1) for the sample irradiated by one pulse (dose 4 × 1014 electrons/cm2) and, as a consequence, the changes in number of phonon modes position, oscillators strength and damping in IR and Raman spectroscopy data. However neutron powder diffraction measurements of multiple irradiated samples have not been revealed any structural distortions. Dielectric parameters have sho…

Effects of 5 MeV electron irradiation on deep traps and electroluminescence from near-UV InGaN/GaN single quantum well light-emitting diodes with and…

2020

The electrical properties, electroluminescence (EL) power output and deep trap spectra were studied before and after 5 MeV electron irradiation of near-UV single-quantum-well (SQW) light-emitting diodes (LED) structures differing by the presence or absence of InAlN superlattice underlayers (InAlN SL UL). The presence of the underlayer is found to remarkably increase the EL output power and the radiation tolerance of LEDs, which correlates with a much lower and more slowly changing density of deep traps in the QW region with radiation dose, and the higher lifetime of charge carriers, manifested by higher short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage in current–voltage characteristics under …

PIPERADE: A double Penning trap for mass separation and mass spectrometry at DESIR/SPIRAL2

2021

International audience; A double Penning trap is being commissioned at CENBG Bordeaux for the future DESIR/SPIRAL2 facility of GANIL. The setup is designed to perform both high-resolution mass separation of the ion beam for trap-assisted spectroscopy, and high-accuracy mass spectrometry of short-lived nuclides. In this paper, the technical details of the new device are described. First offline tests with the purification trap are also presented, showing a mass resolving power of about 105.
